What Makes a Wine a Bordeaux?

Bordeaux wines come from the Bordeaux region of France located along the Atlantic coast. Bordeaux wines are 90% red, and almost always blends dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with differing percentages of Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and smaller amounts of Carménère and Malbec. Wines from this region have a storied history in the global wine trade going back hundreds of years, and are therefore well-known among wine lovers worldwide.
